DiD…direct injection diesel, the badge says on the back.
To me it stood for ‘Deeply intensely Disappointing’ or ‘Damn I’m Disappointed’, I informed Mitsubishi the day I picked the Truck up! It was NOTHING that I had anticipated and to be absolutely fair it was exactly as I was informed it would be, but I had wrongfully assumed being a one off from Mitsubishi it would have been a little bit more special and equipped with parts and accessories that I could not have obtained or done myself.
My original ‘concept’ by editing the back off a double cab! And as it has actually turned out!
After a week and clocking up a pleasant 1000miles in the Truck, I calmed down and accepted that what I was promised back in February 2006 was:
1. Rear chrome bar with step
2. Warrior leather seats
3. 16” Le Man 1 alloy wheels x 5
4. Enhanced front grille
5. Black leather gear knobs (gear and transfer)
6. Warrior type door entry guards
7. Warrior mat set
8. Front fog lamps with silver surrounds
9. Warrior door decals
10. Warrior rear tailgate badge
And what was delivered in June 2006 was:
All that was agreed PLUS:
11. Chrome door mirrors
12. Chrome door handles
13. Locking wheel nuts
14. Aluminium load liner
Not happy with the 16" wheels, I bought 17"Alloys/tyres and side-steps through E-Bay,both from Gordan Lamb in Sheffield and fitted them myself in a day!
Thanks go to Mitsubishi who supplied the nuts/locking nuts FOC! And they have not washed their hands of ME, (Yet!) but are still supporting the Project.
As it took four Months to complete I assumed it was being transformed in the TV program ‘Pimp my ride’ style, EVEN THOUGH I WAS TOLD IT WAS NOT POSSIBLE by Mitsubishi, My brief was “Do whatever you want to it, there’s no such thing as too much as far as I’m concerned!”
I’m still of the opinion that this was a higher profile project than the norm, (you are reading it!) And for my part I’m publicising the Brand and Model for Mitsubishi by way of a ‘Trade off’ against the time we have BOTH had to put in, I have actually bought the Truck at a price greater than the basic ‘4 Life’ Model, and spent four months advertising the project, a little bit MORE could have been done to really enhance the Truck to show it was a ‘one off’ from the MANAFACTURER!
I was told from the outset that my ‘cut and paste’ images could not be achieved as the shell of a single cab was configured very differently to that of a double cab. So NO Wheel arch extensions, sidesteps, bumper over riders/chrome grille/chrome light surrounds/resin sump guard/colour coded painted bumper (the front is totally different on a single cab!) only 16”Alloys permitted, because of manufacturers liability/ build code etc. Likewise with everything electrical, if connections are not present in the factory fitted wiring loom ready to accept any dealer fit options/accessories then they could not fit it, so no electric mirrors, map lights, sat nav/electric instruments( the main feature of my dash is a big central void! ) As the manufacturer of a NEW vehicle it was not even possible for them to drill holes to fit arches/side steps because of their liability.
I have come to appreciate the problems Mitsubishi had obtaining parts as this was a brand new model, and items are not readily available off the shelf yet. For example it took 8 weeks for chrome door handles to come from Thailand, the load liner had to come from Germany, fog lights etc. all had to sourced. Sadly my enthusiasm, over enthusiasm maybe, was not matched and anyone can have the appearance of my ‘Single Cab Warrior’ as it consists of straight forward exchange items, and when it came to me was not really even 50% a Warrior! I have started to change that percentage, as the pictures above show, 16”Alloys and no side steps…Now 17”Alloys with side steps!
On the POSITIVE side, Mitsubishi have said they will supply me with parts, at cost, that I could fit myself to finish the project as they would like to have done. Having used the Truck for two weeks now and clocked up 1111 miles I am actually quite pleased with it!! It is indeed a ‘one off’ and has an appeal of its own, its different front end from the double cab warrior that I have moaned about is actually unique and just needs some finishing touches! It drives and handles superb, although the typical rattles and noise from a ‘common rail injection’ diesel takes some getting used to, the power is impressive though and all in all a GREAT PICK-UP !
Direct injection Diesel, or..
'Did'..Does Inspire Desire!!!
I should thank the product planner at the Colt Car Company HQ, probably the busiest man I know; he did get some ‘ear bashing’ from me over the past two months and I accept he represents Mitsubishi and therefore had criteria he was compelled to follow to the letter!
A.M. THANK YOU, indeed it is growing on me as you predicted and comparing it to the basic L200 ‘4 Life’ it does look the business!! I Like it and want ANOTHER if you can do it in BLUE?
Enjoy the pics, but PLEASE leave your comments at the bottom!!

Hi, I have the older L200 single cab 2001 and think they look a lot better than the new models by far. Yours just does not look right! and I bet it will not do 250,000 miles like mine is nearing!!!

I like it ! I actually think the front end is better than the double cabs, which look too shiny and vulgar to me.
What did it cost in the end - what was the premium over the original single cab truck ?
No electric windows on the new single cab ?? Blimey, my year 2000 single cab has them - so the newer version is a degrade from that ??

I think the truck looks ok,but it would look even better with 20" after market
alloy's. with low profile tyres......cheers....steve

It's much better than your concept looked with the last half of the double cab lopped off, but I still don't like the headlights.

LIKE it !! Sabzzy
THANKS FOR YOUR FFEDBACK!! Answers to Questions...
I agree too that it actually looks better than the concept and the 'Radar deflecting, black, stealthy front end' has an appeal of it's own!
YES it does have electric windows AND BOTH sides have 'one touch' up and down, AND the power stays on to them for about 15 seconds after you take the keys out the ignition so you can close them...clever eh? Heated rear window too, all standard to the New L200!
20" Alloys...see the pictures of my demountable CAMPER on page 6, over a TON on the back...I doubt they would take the combined weight!
